Key Work: Imani Jacqueline Brown on The Great Unraveling of the Corporate Sublime
20 October 2020
Imani Jacqueline Brown's work investigates the continuum of Extractivism, which spans from settler-colonial genocide and slavery to contemporary gentrification, fossil fuel production, and police and corporate impunity. These investigations expose the layers of violence and resistance that comprise the foundations of US society and imagine a future of ecological reparations. Her methodology incorporates practices that might be called "public action research" and a counter-mapping strategy that she calls cartographic unraveling––basically disentangling and analysing the GIS lines and points inscribed by corporations as they make geography, unmake communities, and break Earth’s geology.
