Investee Activism Workshop
2013-2015

Alongside a public lecture series on “The Age of Appreciation: Lectures on the Neoliberal Condition” by Visiting Professor Michel Feher, the Centre for Research Architecture also ran a workshop series aimed at delineating the domain of “investee activism” as specific mode of social antagonism defined by financial markets. These included stakeholder activism in the stock market, borrower activism in the bond market, and collateral guarantor activism in the derivatives market. In addion to surveying existing cases of social movements predicated on the investor vs. investee nexus, especially in the wake of the real estate and banking crises of 2008, participating students also presented their own projects and related-insights in order to speculate on the potential development of such activism. These lectures and workshop materials eventually combined in a new Zone publication by Michel Feher.
