Key Work: Nick Waters on Bellingcat's Frontex investigation
10 November 2020

Still from TGC video that shows a Frontex vessel approaching a dinghy in the Aegean Sea on June 8, 2020.
This presentation examined the use of open source information to investigate and understand the world around us. It focused on the investigation into the complicity of Frontex, the European border force, in illegal pushbacks of refugees and migrants in the Aegean Sea. Nick Waters is a senior investigator for Bellingcat and a former military officer, with experience in cyber threat intelligence and an MA in conflict, security and development from King’s College London. His work has focused on the application of open source techniques to the investigation of conflict, ranging from the use of drones by sub-state actors to chemical weapons in Syria.
